Winter Weather Safety Procedures
& JRSE Weather Station
Cold and Snow Day Procedure
When winter weather, such as snow or extremely sub-zero temperatures, is forecasted, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We carefully monitor road conditions, school parking lots, and sidewalks to ensure everyone's safety.
Our transportation, maintenance, and administrative personnel work together to monitor weather forecasts and road conditions. They make necessary plans to keep staff and students safe. On days when severe weather is expected, the team begins monitoring conditions early, traveling roads and coordinating with County Highway crews. A decision about whether to have school is made by 6:00 a.m. since our first bus departs at 6:05 a.m.
If it is necessary to close school:
Parents will be notified through our alert system. It is essential for parents to have correct phone numbers in PowerSchool to receive text alerts. Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date.
School closures will also be posted on our social media pages.
Local news stations will be notified to inform the community.
Board procedures state that temperatures at minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below (including wind chill) will trigger the dismissal of school for the day to ensure the safety of students traveling to and from school.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
