FFA safety Fair

American Falls, Aberdeen, and Rockland fourth grad- ers spent Thursday, Oct. 14, learning about safety with the American Falls FFA Chapter. Safety topics discussed included electrical, cattle, horse, lawnmower, fire, tractor, canal/water, chemical, pet, gun, and bike safety.
Additionally, the students got to meet a K-9 Unit from the Twin Falls Police Department, and they even got to watch this K-9 unit do a training demonstration near the end of the day.
“You could see the joy in the students as they went station to station learning [about] safety. You could tell that they really did learn a lot from each station, which really makes it worthwhile,” said one FFA member.
Additionally, another FFA member said, “It was really amazing to see the kids learn new things and be excited about being safe. Hopefully, this day will help shape their decisions in the future.”
The day provided a fun, yet educational, day for the fourth grade students. Group leaders got the opportunity to walk the kids back to class.
“We got to bond with the students, and leaving at the

end of the day was hard for us as well as them,” said one FFA member. “I’m glad I got the opportunity to help teach these students how to stay safe.”
The FFA chapter was fortunate to have two sponsors they’ve had the opportunity to work with in the past. One sponsor, Simplot, provided food for those helping put on the event, provided bags for the students participating, and provided funding for many of the expenses that were nec- essary to put the event on. The other sponsor, St. Luke’s, helped provide other funding and bicycles that were raf- fled off to four fourth graders. They helped contact Raft River Electric and the K-9 unit from Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, as well as brought in presentations for Canal/Water Safety and Chemical Safety Stations. Both sponsors helped provide t-shirts for every fourth grade student.
Many people helped make the event possible, includ- ing Simplot, St. Luke’s, Twin Falls and American Falls police departments, local businesses, and over 40 FFA members.
“It was wonderful to see our FFA members work- ing hand-in-hand with our community partners to deliv- er such a great Safety Day for the Rockland, Aberdeen, and American Falls fourth graders,” said Marc Beitia, an American Falls FFA Chapter advisor. “Thank you to Katie Bischoff, Wyatt Hunt, Emma Beutler, Francisco Hernan- dez, Hannely Cardona, Martin Hernandez, Aunnika Allen, and Wrendon Osborne for making this happen.”
