Soft Skills and Community Pride Day

American Falls High School's (FFA) chapter recently organized an event that not only equipped freshmen students with  life skills but also demonstrated their commitment to the local community. The initiative was spearheaded by three freshmen - Jade Alvarez, Yarelli Carrillo, and Lucas Hartley, and saw enthusiastic participation from local businesses eager to impart their expertise.

The FFA's Soft Skills Workshop, held at the school, featured a roster of local businesses dedicated to empowering the next generation. Each company brought forth an array of knowledge and insights essential for success in various professional settings. The businesses and the topics they covered included:

Lakeview Ag: This local agricultural powerhouse delivered a crucial lesson on how to ace a job interview. Students learned the importance of dressing appropriately, responding to interview questions confidently, and presenting themselves in the best possible light.

Titan Machinery: Focusing on practicality, Titan Machinery delved into the nitty-gritty of job applications, cover letters, resumes, and, importantly, cultivating a positive job attitude.

AF Police Department: Chief Wilkinson offered invaluable guidance on managing one's social profiles and working effectively with others, both vital skills in the digital age.

Peterson's Manufacturing Inc.: With an emphasis on first impressions, Peterson's imparted knowledge on how to make a lasting impact and retain a job through professionalism and commitment.

Lamb Weston: Time management and organizational skills were the name of the game here. Students learned the art of juggling responsibilities and keeping life organized, a skillset critical for future success.

Stotz Equipment: Critical thinking, problem-solving, and the art of overcoming challenges took center stage in Stotz Equipment's workshop. These are skills essential for success in the face of adversity.

The Soft Skills Workshop not only allowed students to gain knowledge from industry experts but also inspired them to cultivate a diverse skill set that will undoubtedly prove invaluable as they progress in their academic and professional journeys.

In addition to the Soft Skills Workshop, American Falls High School FFA organized the annual  Community Pride Day, emphasizing their commitment to local engagement and the betterment of their surroundings. The event was planned by AFHS Junior and FFA member, Noah Cummins. Students from each grade participated in a cleanup effort targeting various areas:

Freshmen took charge of cleaning up the school grounds, ensuring that their learning environment remains welcoming and pleasant.

Sophomores focused on Frontage Road. in front of the High School. Juniors ventured to the reservoir across the dam. Seniors played their part at the Marina and Lamb Weston Road.

The FFA’s Mentor Program including upperclassmen and new FFA members cleaned the Bypass from Valley Wide to Lee Street Park, in collaboration with the Lions Club.

Principal Travis Hansen commended the FFA chapter and the participating businesses for their unwavering support. "The Soft Skills Workshop and Community Pride Day reflect the dedication of our students to both personal and community growth. We extend our gratitude to the local businesses that shared their wisdom.

American Falls High School FFA's recent events have not only provided its students with practical skills and a deeper sense of community but have also set a powerful example for the entire school. The lasting impact of these initiatives will undoubtedly serve as a stepping stone for the success of the next generation.
