Hillcrest Kids Heart Challenge 2022
This week in PE class we will be discussing our annual Kids Heart Challenge Event. Hillcrest Elementary has participated in the event for the past 27 years. Last year we were very successful and helped raise over $7000 for the American Heart Association. This year our goal is $8000. Students that wish to participate will bring back their registration letters and then they can begin collecting donations and earning prizes. February 7th through 10th students will be participating in our KHC PE activities. We will be jumping rope, jumping hurdles, walking on balance beams, climbing ropes and other fun activities. Hillcrest also received $700 in gift certificates last year to spend on PE equipment. We are excited to once again participate in Kids Heart Challenge!

Typical December weather has finally hit us! Fun but also cold. Please be sure to sent your students prepared to be outside for recesses. Hats, snow boots, gloves and a waterproof coat make it more comfortable for your children. We all go outside for recesses unless the temperature is 10 or below or the wind is a safety issue. Please help your child remember to dress for the weather. Thank you!

Today Hillcrest participated in a PRACTICE lock-down drill. We prepare our students and staff for lock-down procedures - that is, getting behind a locked door and out of the line of sight if possible. We talk about what it means to go into lockdown. That something strange is in our school and we need to be safe. We do not go into scary details. Then we practice in a very calm manner. We had city and county police here to help us practice and see how we are doing. They said our students and staff did very well! We hope to never, ever have to go into a real lockdown but I am confident if we did, our school and law enforcement will react as safely as possible! Ask your child about this experience and tell them Mrs. Fehringer said GREAT JOB!
