March 1, 2022
Dear Parents and Friends of Hillcrest Elementary:
In preparation for the 2022-23 school year, we are beginning the process of developing class list drafts. The professional staff and I put a lot of time and care into developing these assignments. We approach it collectively and with an understanding of the many strengths, needs, human interactions, etcetera that are unique to each of our students.
A systematic process is used to generate class lists. The framework for the placement process is outlined below:
Collaborative teacher teams develop initial recommendations which are based upon balancing academic needs, social/emotional development, gender, parent input, personality dynamics and scheduling requirements.
The above factors are used to generate the first draft of class lists.
Lists are then reviewed by the school counselor, behavioral coach, special program teachers and myself.
Feedback is then shared with collaborative grade level teams. Teachers again review the list and analyze any changes or modifications.
A final class placement list is developed.
Our overall objective is to create classes that are balanced and to ensure the best possible school experience for your child(ren). In order to maintain the integrity and goals of this process, once the final placement is completed and reviewed changes are rarely made.
We welcome you in this process. If desired, we encourage you to provide us with input that would assist us with placing your child for the next school year. A parental Input form is available in the office and provides us with valuable insight for student placement. If input forms are received on time, parental input/requests will be taken into consideration along with other critical factors. We cannot always honor parent requests. If desired, please complete a Parental Input Form, available in the office, and return to the Hillcrest office by April 1st, 2022.
Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this process, please contact me at tinaf@sd381.k12.id.us or 208-226-2391.
Respectfully,
Tina Fehringer
Principal
