Coach VJ

The American Falls High School Athletics had an incredible opportunity at the beginning of the school year to hear from an amazing Mental Performance Coach, Vera Jo Bustos. She spoke to the athletes, coaches and parents from American Falls, Aberdeen, and Rockland High School. We had a solid turnout with 155 athletes, 30 coaches, and 14 parents in attendance. She shared her experiences and emphasized the importance of hard work, determination, and teamwork. Coach VJ also talked about how overcoming obstacles and staying focused on goals can lead to success both in sports and in life. Her message encouraged everyone to push their limits and strive for excellence, reminding us that dedication and perseverance are key to achieving greatness.

During her presentation, Coach VJ also highlighted the importance of self-talk and maintaining a positive attitude. She explained how using encouraging words with oneself and staying optimistic can significantly boost performance and resilience. By focusing on "Power" words over "Poison" words, and fostering a positive mindset, athletes can better handle challenges and stay motivated. The athletes left the assembly feeling inspired to apply these mental strategies to enhance their confidence and effectiveness both on and off the field.

We would also like to give a huge shout out to the American Falls Power of Pride. They graciously sponsored Vera Jo to come speak to the Athletic Departments. They also donated protein shakes, granola bars, and oranges for athletes, coaches, and parents for after the speech. For more information about Coach VJ, check out her site: Mentality Solutions.
