This past weekend was an impressive display of musical talent as 11 members of the SOTF (Spirit of the Falls) band from American Falls High School went to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble competition. Hosted in Coeur d’Alene, the event saw participants from various high school sizes, ranging from 1A to 5A, come together to show their musical talents.
The highlight of the event for the SOTF band was undoubtedly the amazing performance from their Trumpet Choir, which sounded excellent and took a lot of hard work to perfect. Despite the tough competition, the ensemble won 2nd place, bringing home well-deserved recognition to American Falls High School. Their rendition won over the audience and judges alike, falling just shy of the top spot, which was claimed by 5A Centennial High School.
"Not only did our students demonstrate amazing talent, but they also showed remarkable teamwork and dedication," remarked Mr. Hanchey, one of the band instructors at American Falls High School. Mr. Leisher also added that "Their achievement is an example of their hard work and the support of the entire SOTF band family."
Not to be outdone, the Woodwind Quintet from SOTF also left their mark on the stage, delivering a moving performance that earned them 4th place. Their execution and beautiful music sounded throughout the venue, earning them recognition from peers and other schools.
Individually, Shaylee Taylor showcased her amazing talent in the Flute solo category, coming out as a top 10 finisher in what was known as a very competitive field. Her dedication to her craft and all the time she put in practicing the flute showed brightly among tough competition.
The entire SOTF band, representing American Falls High School, showed unwavering dedication, talent, and commitment throughout the competition, an example to their hard work and the guidance of their instructors.
In light of their remarkable achievements, the SOTF band extends an invitation to the community to come out and see their music firsthand at the AFHS Arts Showcase (Art Show/Pops Concert) on Wednesday, May 22nd. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the state-qualifying musicians as they perform, and also have the privilege of seeing over 200 pieces of art displayed that were done by our very own art students.
The SOTF band's success at the State Solo and Ensemble competition serves as a source of pride for American Falls High School. These students went and showcased their talents and showed a lot of people their hard work. Congratulations to all the talented musicians for their outstanding representation of AFHS!
