The Most Dangerous Game Board

"The Most Dangerous Game" is a short story by Richard Connell, who fought in WWI. The story features a big-game hunter from New York City who falls off a yacht and swims to what seems to be an abandoned and isolated island in the Caribbean, where he is hunted by a Russian aristocrat.

In Ms. In Morris's 8th grade ELA class, students are wrapping up their figurative language unit, where they "hunted" for figurative language devices in the story. Students created a map of Ship Trap Island, the setting of the story. Then students played a "less dangerous game" where they had to answer questions about the elements of the story to advance across the game board. Events of the story were spread throughout the board so that students could be penalized when running into a problem the main character faced and have to move back. The 8th graders really enjoyed playing the game and creating the maps.
